Useful count in that was the size of the San Juan Extension crew.
Some other notes from that same period:

June 18, 1881 Rico
The Durango bound coach was again robbed on Wednesday night between the Frorida and Durango. It is rumored that the robbers made quite a haul, but it is impossible to tell anything about it, as rumors are too conflicting.
On last Sunday the D&RG railroad was opened for travel as far as Arboles, 45 miles from Durango. Frank C. Jackson is the Agent.

June 25 1881 Rico
The track of the D&RG will be laid into Del Norte before the first day of July. The company expect to have the road completed to Wagon Wheel Gap by the first of August.

The Durango Record of June 22, expected the cars in Durango in twenty five days.

Since the establishment of a depot at the D&RGRR extension, known as Arboles, a little investigation has established the fact that this new town is on the reservation, and when it was definitely know that such was the case, orders were sent from headquarters to the post here to have the squatters removed at once. The citizens of Arboles were told how matters stood and were given until yesterday to “git.” Whether they went or not we are not informed. The question with the people there is where will they go now? It is altogether probable that some of them will go back to Chama and others come out here. We wait with some curiosity to know the shape matters will now take in the locality—Durango Democrat.

Col. Henry Page, the agent of the Southern Utes, has called upon the commander at Fort Lewis for troops to remove the liquor dealers from Arboles, the present end of the D&RG track which is located on the Indian reservation.

Beginning at Chama, coming westward the stations are Azotea, Monero, Amargo, Navajo, Juanita, Carracas, Arboles, P.P. Divide, La Baca, Ignacio, Sella, Florida, Bocca, Carboneria, Durango. From Durango, northward the stations will be Trimble’s Spring, Hermosa, Rockwood, Cascade, Needleton, Elk Park and Silverton --Durango Record

The Southwest says the machinery for the New York and San Juan Smelting company arrived in Durango on the 7th inst. And will be put in position immediately.
The name of the Durango Democrat has again been changed to Southwest, the old original name, under which the paper was started.

A party of locating engineers of the D&RG are now at work in Hermosa setting stakes for the probable railroad. In speaking of this fact the Durango Southwest says: We understand that a party of locating engineers are preparing to start west from the line of the D&RGRR via Hermosa creek. This looks as though Rico was to have a railroad in a very short time hence.

The sound of the locomotive whistle was heard in Del Norte for the first time Friday July 1, 1881
The D&RG contractors complain that they cannot secure laborers at $2.50 per day.

Trains are now running over the D&RG to within 17 miles of Durango.

Where or what is P.P Divide or Sella? of:
"Answer: P.P. Divide became Soledad at 412 (1883), 0.8 mile east of Tiffany;, Sella became Silla at 430.1 in 1883, later at 431.59 when line re-mile-posted"
