Joe Brice, the Durango to Chama San Juan engineer had a 1900 seniority date, the same year as Charles Arnell. Brice was later the engineer on Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg's Around the Circle Tour, running the San Juan from Chama to Durango. Dan Holley was engineer for the same train over Cumbres. Beebe and Clegg were guests of D&RGW general manager Al Perlman.
O.D. (IIRC on the initials) Price, the Crested Butte engineer, later ran the last narrow gauge train east of Montrose. Frank Wright was the fireman. The engine was the 456, featured in posts earlier this week.
Charlie Knight, the conductor of the westbound freight out of Chama, was featured in Lucius Beebe's Mixed Train Daily.
Frank Frantz was the engineer on the 483 when newspaper columnist Ernie Pyle rode over Marshall Pass before WWII. Pyle was an established columnist even before the war.
Baldwin conductor Richard ``Rusty'' Young later was conductor on the last train the Rio Grande ran over Marshall Pass, a Sargent turn in May 1955. The train delivered cars to the scrapper.
