There have been a more than a few accidents in the Toltec siding area, like the head-on collision between Train 116, (engine 169) and the 411 because the light engine crewmen misread their orders.
The passenger train was to have run one hour late Antonito to Osier and 45 minutes late Osier to Cumbres. The 411 crewman, birnging their engine back to Alamosa ran that 115 was to run 1hour, 45 minutes late and were quite surprised when the other train showed up.
Cumbres agent C.R. Lively said the 411 engineer read the orders back to him correctly so how the misunderstanding came about is unknown.
