How are you getting to the Grand Canyon and where are you coming from? Texas? A lot depends on this.

Distances and travel times are quite long in the southwest. Trust me, I travel every summer back and forth from Southern California to the Durango Colorado area.

The best steam trip in the general area is going to be Durango or Chama. But Durango is more than 300 miles from Williams AZ. And I think Chama is more than 400 miles away, so both well out of your 100-200 mile ideal.

Depending on your starting point, you can take Amtrak to the Grand Canyon Railway via the Southwest Chief. But if you're starting in Texas, then this is likely not an option.
