Brian, Grant...
In 1956, I was on my way from California to Massachusets, to begin engineering graduate studies. I stopped in Alamosa, at the Narrow Gauge Motel. The welcome I got there was astonishing. Bob Richardson showed me around, told the stories of the acquisition of the equipment, and also the stories of things he had tried to do, and could not. Later, he took me to dinner at some greasy spoon in Alamosa.
Bob Richardson is the greatest hero in the effort to preserve narrow gauge railroad equpipment that there is. To the best of my knowledge, most of the money required to do this preservation work came out of Bob's pocket. I look forward to seeing him again in Salt Lake City, and embarrassing him again with my compliments.
