According to a 1961 article in Trains, written by Dick Kindig, NdeM 2250 was in daily service in 1961, and there are indications that the engine survived to 1963. When 458 and 459 went to Mexico for use on the NG parts of NdeM, the records say the 458 was numbered 400 and 459 numbered 401. When they were converted to SG, they were then numbered 2250 and 2251 respectively. Photographs however seem to tell a different story. 458 was one of the original engines rebuilt with piston valves, and stephenson gear, thus its cylinders lean inward at the top. 459 was one of the later rebuilds and was built originally with walscherts gear, and a steel cab. Its cylinders lean outward at the top. Pictures of NdeM 2250(400) show the engine with a steel cab, and outward leaning cylinders. Thus despite the records, #459 became NdeM 400 then 2250, and 458 became 401 and 2251 and go to scrap in 1957.
