We recently relocated to So. California (just north of LA, out of the smog) and we decided to spend today down at Knott's Berry Farm. (They have a special deal for vets in early November...two free admissions and up to six more at $12.95 each. Regular price is 50 bucks each, so it's a gonga!) Of course, the wife and kid thought it was to go out and have fun at the amusement park, but little did they know that it was a pilgrimage to a little piece of Colorado NG here in California.
A little background for those of you who haven't been down there... Walter Knott purchased RGS 41, Goose 3 caboose 0402 and Business Car B-3 (the Edna ) as well as D&RGW C-19 346, several passenger and freight cars, and the Parlor Car Durango as well as some other items and some track for his amusement park. It's still there today, and in what appears to be excellent shape (the mixed-up stock car and gon nonwithstanding). In fact, I think the passenger cars that are there today are actually better preserved than the ones on the D&SNG.
I'm going to attach some of the pics I took today with my trusty Nikon D-80 (once I resize the .jegs to a postable size) later on.
Frankly, I feel that it's a nice little operation... the locos have an easy life in the land of palm trees, and the rest of Knott's was worth the trip for the family (although it cost me some fudge once they figured it out...) Anyone else have some comments?
