It must be an optical illusion, but the harp switch stand sure looks awfully close to the main line....

I suspect it was actually higher up and closer to the photographer,so there was plenty adequate clearance....it just looks a little odd in the photo.

This is an Interesting "home made" derail arrangement.....

Appears the "near" end of the rails on the spur were the ones moved by the harp lever so as to be positioned in between the regular spur rails going on down to the switch and the short "guard" rails.

Probably so as to allow the short guard rails to catch the wheels as they ran off the ends of the movable stubs and keep them lined up so the trucks wouldn't get crosswise and turn the runaway car over. Then it would just bump to a stop (hopefully) in the clear of the main line on the ties between the regular rails and those short guard rails.

I wonder how common this arrangement was.....It is Ingenious, anyway.
