In meiningen steam-locomotive repair factory will be built a complete new 2-8-2 steam locomotive for daily train-traffic between Bad Doberan and Kühlungsborn.
Jeff,
Thanks for posting that link. It points out the #1 difference between the Restore vs. Built New concept. A new engine can take a lot more abuse and hard running than a restored one.
Even Doyle McCormack (sp?) has mentioned on ocassion about not liking to push the 4449 because "there arn't any spare parts."
A new K-36/37 would have a lower matinance cost than the originals and could be pushed to its full design potential. Of course the old ones are already paid off and for the time being it's cheaper to maintain than build new.
Merry Christmas everyone,
Curtis F.
P.S. I may be wrong, but the cylinders on the German engine look to be a welded fabrication. The whole engine looks like grade A+ work!
