It's not in the same class with the C&TS or D&S, but it has the prettiest little consolidation you'll ever see. It also has a mile and a half of mainline with a wye at each end, linking Virginia City with Nevada City. The newly-constructed two-stall engine house is located in Nevada City, and there are stations at each end. The crew of volunteers that runs the railroad for the state takes the operation very seriously, and does a very professional job. However, that doesn't keep them from letting the customers get a close up look at the engine. Every kid gets a chance to blow the whistle. There is also some interesting rolling stock from the Florence and Cripple Creek, by way of the Montana Southern, plus some standard gauge passenger equipment. If you are heading to Montana, this is too good to pass up.
