Hi, Andrew -
I've been involved with #2472 in a small way almost from the very beginning, since the West Bay Model RR Club took the Freedom Train's engine crew and a couple of us volunteers to dinner in early December of 1975 when the train was on display in San Jose. Mike Mangini of the WBMRRC instigated Project 2472, and traveled with the AFT as a volunteer as much as possible in 1976 to learn all he could about maintaining and operating a steam engine.
The Memorial Day trips in Niles Canyon were great! I rode the photo special on Friday, and again with my daughter & one of her uncles for two trips on Sunday.
