Hey Rick,
I have to agree with you, everything from everybody I ever heard about Mr. Cort has not good. Unfortunetly, I never knew Floyd sure seemed like a proud "old timer" with his starched engineers hat and the air of experience about him. Like my honorary grandfathers up in Boulder Ralph MacGallister and Forrest Crossen they didn't need to bullshit.
When working in Durango at the D&S, Cort came down and wanted to investigate buying the Railbus to run up Clear Creek Canyon, at that time he said he already had a second steam engine stored in Denver undergoing restoration for operation in Central City...
He asked Lindsey and the loop if he minded if he relayed track up to the loop from Golden...
I have nothing but respect and admiration for Lindsey and his old operations, they gave me my start in railroading.
The Cort operation in Central was just a hair brained idea from a dreamer with no skills or proper backing. It will remain a bad chapter in Colorado tourist railroads. I don't want deflame people but mountain towns like Nederland and Ward still had ways of making such people un-welcome in the community. It usually involved flying projectiles from unknown directions....
I still hope that Lindsey can find a wothwhile operation for the all the great equipment and way of doing business.
Anyway I'm trying to help a few preservation groups here in Brazil as long as I am here. But I still miss Colorado Narrow gauge but for the most part the operations in colorado are in good hands and will be there when I visit. Thanks to all those involved for helping maintain the history of my home state.
Thor
