Some of the early locomotive horns can be (and must be) tuned. Modern ones have fixed diaphragm assemblies, no tuning allowed.

Nathan/Airchime's M series must be tuned, the P and K series cannot be tuned. The K series (now common these days) are die cast and sometimes machined, seem to be in tune most of the time. The P series started out in tune, but the third generation of sand casst patterns are so far off that a 5 chime makes you grit your teeth they are so far off.

Reversing some bells will also change the perceived sound.
