It may be new information to most that the narrow gauge track has never been covered by FRA track standard rules. The published requirements by the FRA only cover standard gage tack. And that is the correct spelling of gage in the Federal Register. Earl once told me that they pro-rated the measurements and made up an unofficial specification requirement, an internal secret I hope. Has anyone ever found a old specification that the D&RGW used to fit their requirements? It would be very interesting to know what their Engineering Department felt was the best safety measurements.
