Re: What Tony's looks like today

I know what used to be Tony's very, very well. Too bad the picture didn't show Tony better. He passed away a few years ago when he was well up in his 90s. A wealth of Crested Butte history passed with him. Tony had a prodigious memory and would greet you by name even though it had been a while since your last visit. One thing I remember is that Tony had the largest hands I've ever seen on a person his size.

A couple of other notable items in that photo: First of all the elk rack on the left wall is reportedly the world record. The elk came from the Dark Canyon area a few miles north of Crested Butte. Second, notice the large pot bellied stove in the background. During the long winters days it would be the gathering place for the old geezers to sit around, warm themselves, and tell stories.

Quite a lot of history in that old building. I'm glad to see it has been kept as a museum instead of being turned into another yuppie store.
