To get back to the original question; I seem to remember one of the round number plates on display at the Colorado Railroad Museum. It was downstairs along with an assortment of other pieces of hardware from narrow gauge locomotives.
So it would seem that the scrap pile did not claim all of them.
I would like to recall another number plate story. A couple of years ago a number plate was offered for sale on E-Bay and it turned into a discussion here. The proposed answer was that it was a room number plate from the the old Narrow gauge Motel in Alamost.
I wrote to Robert Richardson and asked for his memory of the thing and it was indeed from the motel. He was way surprised and amused that anyone would confuse the two items!
