Hi,

I think it is the pin that holds the knuckle in the coupler (not the pivot). When you pull the uncoupling lever, the knuckle can open. This pin keeps it from swinging too wide.

If you need to replace the knuckle, you need to remove the pivot pin and pull this retaining pin.
