I dont like the silver trim, but its not my locomotive. Personally, I would prefer an accurate scheme, but to be honest, to does not look too bad.

Its their locomotive, they can paint it how they like. I cant see how something as simple as silver trim could cause people to leave.

It could be worse. it could be painted slime green with pink counterweights, red rods, blue firebox....you get the idea.

who knows, maybe some shop worker tried the trim idea once. who if its really such a huge deal (which it is really not) go to the shop at night and paint over it!!
