The St. Elmo depot was not stone, it was a wood building.

Yes, I know that. All I was saying was that the South Park boys were so good at setting fires that could even burn stone buildings !
I recently acquired a CD 126.4 WE MFG CO insulator said to have come off the St. Elmo depot. A photo I have from the 1880's looking downgrade clearly shows one of these in use on the northeast corner of the building. Being someone who appreciates provenance for historical artifacts, this story was a bit of a bonus. However, I am a bit skeptical of all tales of this sort and look to triangulate the information against other known data.
I have found chunks of these elsewhere along the line and several oldtimers have said they found them on the SP lines years ago. But being off the line "somewhere" and actually off the depot are two different things. Did the depot survive long after the line was pulled up in the mid 20's, or did it burn while still in service and the telegraph was still operational ? The latter would suggest the story I got was bogus.
