Ridership on the Chama/Cumbres trains has increased due to the introduction of the Sunday "theme" trains. Ridership on these trains is 2,310 so far this year vs. 1,419 during 2007 for a 62.8% increase.

Some thoughts about these trains:

1. As opposed to the through trains these are more convenient for people making a day trip out of Santa Fe or Albuquerque. Compared to the regular Osier round-trip these leave an hour later and return an hour earlier.

2. The themes provide an opportunity to keep promoting these trains to the residents of the population centers to the south.
