C&TS Ridership Analysis

Posted By: Tim Tennant
Date: Aug 18, 2008

CTSMC Vice-President & Treasurer Richard Tower has assembled an analysis of ridership for the 2008 season as of Friday August 15, 2008. Let us share a few of his findings. Total passengers carried by the C&TS as of this date for 2008 is 23,577 vs. 24,168 riders in 2007 for a decrease of 2.4%. Passenger boardings from Antonito are at 9,124 for 2008 vs. 9,449 for 2007 which is a decrease of 3.4%. Boardings out of Chama for this period are 13,929 for 2008 vs. 14,530 in 2007 resulting in a 4.1% decrease. Ridership on the Chama/Cumbres trains has increased due to the introduction of the Sunday "theme" trains. Ridership on these trains is 2,310 so far this year vs. 1,419 during 2007 for a 62.8% increase. As a side note, ABC's Good Morning America will be featuring the Cumbres & Toltec as part of a story they are doing on train travel in America. In particular the piece on the C&TS will be on the history of train travel. Expect the segment to air sometime during the month of September. As we receive more details, we will pass them along.

This IMHO is a double gooood thing.
