Bill Kazel, owner of the Como roundhouse, has listed it for sale to make it more accessible if someone has the means and motivation to put it to a self-sustaining use that will ensure it's continued maintenance and preservation. He has not given up on the project, but feels he has accomplished the primary goals he had when he bought it about 15 years ago. Further work would be more effective if it was geared towards a specific use (no sense in re-constructing parts that would have to be removed to make the building useful). Greg Kazel (Bill's son) provided the following clarification to the DSP-P e-mail list at Yahoo Groups:
"My father is continuing with his maintenance and restoration work. He still
fully intends to install the turntable, rebuilt the boiler house, and
continue maintenance of the building and grounds. It is offered "For Sale"
to someone who has a great idea for a use for the building. Rather that
idea comes from someone who wants to buy the building outright, or help my
father make it happen, does not matter. My father bought the building 15
+/- years ago to save it, and he is more committed to that goal today than
he was back then.
Would he donate it to the DSP&P Group for the tax write-off? If it could be
shown to him how that would preserve and protect the building, yes.
Would he invest more of his own money to help someone like the DSP&P Group
set up something in the building? Same answer.
Would he sell it outright to someone who wanted to garage their REALLY BIG
model train set? Same answer again.
Somewhere out there is a good idea that will work. The listing of the
property is to help get word out that it is available."
