According to El Coke, 463 lost the blow-down valve at Lava Loop, so he had to drop the fire. Marvin Casias was working the Pineapple up around Sublette, so he highballed down. Coke cut 463's air out, Marvin cut #19 into the rear of the train and they drifted home.
El Coke also related this: When he arrived at Antonito on the bus, Marvin had already been working for a couple hours, then took off in his car for Sublette, to handle th work train. Did a masterful no-nonsense job of showing how and helping Coker re-pack a hot journal on 463's trailing truck, and another masterful job of bringing the train home.
When Coker left Antonito around 7 PM, thee was Marvin working with Bob Wright to get the engine fixed and fired up for today's run.
Where would we be without this guy?
Thanks, Marvin!
