Roger, as you are discovering, the trick to getting good shots of hummingbirds using a flash is to set the flash for the minimum power (this gives the shortest duration flash). Oh, yes, move the card a little further back so the shadows don't fall on it
. But these are excellent initial tries. Do you know how many varieties of hummers you get up there? Down here at Ramsey Canyon, which is not too far from where I am (Tucson), you can see 17 varieties during the migration season. And a copper-tailed (or Elegant) trogon or two to boot!
