I think you guys should be proud of your work on this film. Sure, you can't make a K-27 into a 4-4-0 American Standard, and the really discerning eye could see a fishbellied flat which was a little out of place, and (interestingly enough) the present-day D&S rail they show the tracklayers putting down is actually a good bit heavier than the real thing of the 1860s!
But the overall impression is right--the sequence captures the atmosphere of what laying the CP must have been like--it has the right scale and feel to it. The filmmakers went out of there way to minimize the anachronisms, and showed a lot more care than Hollywood usually exhibits. A good job by all concerned.
The movie itself isn't great, but it isn't a disaster either--the acting is actually very good, stronger than the directing or the script. And the storyline may be of interest to folks on this forum, as the entire film revolves around a CPRR surveyor and his decision on whether or not to locates the CPRR through a fictional mining town in the Sierras.
