WE didn't have any plates, the builders plates you see today or even the one that used to be on our locos in the 60s are NOT original. They are remakes. Nconut the plate from c-16 240 did not survive to be copied and put on c-19 340 at knotts. Its number just got put on to 340s new plate by mistake. Both the original plates from 340 and 41 are gone, probly scrapped when both locos got new boilers in 1916. The 1916 boilers are what you see tobay.
When knotts wanted to put builder plates back on the locos they made copies of what we thought they looked like and 340s had the wrong number. It was just a simple mistake. Also the plates didn't curve with the smokebox they were flat and they stuckout about a 1/2inch from the boiler. Later on they figured out the mistake and we knew someone with a original baldwin builders plate, we had that plate reproduced with the correct numbers for are locos and there they are today. 340 has her correct number 5571 and 41 has hers 5731.
