More than conjectures. There were a number of proposed and planned lines in that area. A line was planned from Almont to Taylor Park. Some grading was actually done that was later used for the highway.

One plan was to extend the Anthracite branch to the Marble area. Another plan had a branch off the crested Butte branch going around the mountain to Gothic and on to the Marble area.

An extension of the Floresta branch over to Somerset and then up to Marble that was was considered.

The documentation and newspaper reports that I have all indicate that these plans never got to the grading or track laying stage.

Will post a couple of items when I have time.
