The linked article at the lead post is about the start of the season on the East Broad Top and the ongoing threat of closure. Every year the owning family makes it sound like they will not open the railroad again. This is an on going situation with the EBT. Read some of the comment postings below the the newspaper article.
The owning family has indicated that they are willing to sell. But then they do not seem to want to set down and "talk turkey." So neither the State or the National Park Service or anyone else has had success.
The Kovalchick interests purchased the entire company -- not just the physical assets -- lock, stock, and minute book. Most likely over the years they have made money selling property and the like and using the operation of the railroad to offset the profits. Sooner or later this has to change.
