After the Income tax Law of 1916 ,companies were allowed to depreciate older equipment down to very little , i.e. they paid less tax on old equipment .So the Grande essentially built a new caboose but kept it on the books as an built in 1880 ! I concur that #04444 is basically the most intact old car on the property ,being built in 1887 ,053 and 0452 are basically original , and very ol d .The bigger RPOs were rebuilt a nd reinforced in the 1920s .
