jeff,
we took all measurements of the real-deal in durango a few years ago. my brother, casey, is a autocad whiz, so he drew them all up on the computer to 1/2" scale.
the model is made entirely from scratch. the tender is made of styrene and wood, curved, sanded and glued to shape. the loco has a laser-cut aluminum frame with homemade resin castings fastened on. masters are made from delrin, aluminum, styrene, wood or whatever we can find to resemble the piece being made. masters are then molded in rubber, and after cured, resin pored in to replicate parts.
you're lookin at about a years worth of work, and many years of tried and failed attempts at scratchbuilding. we're learning from our mistakes, though, and hopefully this one will come out lookin good!
we'll be in chama july 3-13, and are bringing what parts we have completed on the model. so if you, or anyone who reads this is in the area, just look for the 3 guys that look too young to care THAT much about narrow gauge, and come say hey!
