Both trips look like really good ones. If you haven't been to the Cumbres & Toltec before, you'll get a taste of the 'different' railroads at each end of the line. I say 'different' because the westbound from Antonito starts in the relatively flat, wide open spaces before getting into the mountains. Going east from Chama, the grade is a lot steeper and you'll hear the locomotive really work on the way up to Cumbres Pass.
If your schedule allows, check out the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad out of Alamosa. You just might catch some standard-gauge steam to go with your narrow-gauge experience.
