This just makes me thankful that I live in a county, and state that doesn't require building permits. There is a need for certain types of permits. For example, I don't want a house built that's going to encroach on my property line, or one with a substandard electrical system that could start a fire and spread to my land. Most importantly, I don't want a poorly designed septic tank/leachfield that's going to contaminate my water well.
On the other hand, I wouldn't want to have to have detailed engineering plans for my garden RR be drawn up be a civil engineer and be submitted to the county for approval. Much better to have a requirement that nothing I do will impact anyone else's property or damage the stream running through it.
