Last week, the Clear Creek Courant newspaper had an article titled "Loop set to open Saturday with diesel engine" posted:
Clear Creek Courant: Loop Set to Open Saturday with Diesel Engine
The article indicated that there will
not be any steam operations at the Georgetown Loop until at least July.
The article also said that the operator plans on using the Loop's #21 diesel locomotive as a backup, but last year the same operator chose to completely shut down the Loop instead of using #21. While I have not had time to search the NGDF's archives, my recollection is that they chose to shutdown the Loop rather than use #21 because #21 had repeatedly derailed.
Since the article was published, I read on another site that #21 had to pull trains all Memorial Day weekend because there were problems with #1203. I don't know any details of what happened, nor can I even confirm those reports about problems with #1203 and #21 being used.
Meanwhile, the Summit Daily News ran an article titled "Breckenridge aims for Locomotive No. 9 in 2009 - Town, heritage alliance desire temporary placement for anniversary":
Summit Daily News: Breckenridge aims for Locomotive No. 9 in 2009
The article quotes town spokesperson Kim DiLallo as having said
“The agreement with the (Colorado) Historical Society is that they will give us No. 9 if we will run it — we’re saying we plan to do that — but we want it in place for the 150th anniversary,”
