Someone on another list mentioned that there was a mill in the Ophir area, above where the trestle was, after the railroad left. It dumped it's tailings into the area of the trestle, and it was those tailings that had to be cleaned up - thus the reclaimation.

I have no direct knowledge, but this is what I've been told.
