Following our GLRR ride (posting below) Gail and I drove to Chama and rode the train to Antonito. We got back to our home in Central Oregon last night at 9 PM.
It rained most of the train ride and it was super! The drivers kept slipping on the wet rails and almost came to a halt several times, but Jeremy did a great job of recovering and keeping her going. It was foggy (cloudy) at the higher altitudes, Gail didn't get a lot of fall colors photos. I got a few with my small digital camera which I will post if they are worthy of sharing once we unwind and unpack.
So much rolling stock! Coming from SVRR where we value each and every piece of equipment, it was surprising to me to see so many cars in the yards.
This is a top notch operation and I hope to take the ride again in the future. In addition to the ride, the scenery was terrific (when we were above and below the clouds) and the food at Osier was probably our best meal on the entire 9 day drive from Oregon to Colo/N. Mex and back.
Thanks to Sonny (I really enjoyed our conversation) and Jeremy for the great ride from Chama to Osier, and to Carlos and Ronald for the ride down to Antonito. Also thanks to Freida for her hospitality. Max, I hope you reach your goal of becoming a Fireman!
