Good Morning Bill,
Well, bless your heart - when I said "I may be back" I meant on this List tomorrow! However,it was a very generous and interesting offer and I thank you for it - there's no substitute for a knowledgeable guide ....And, I might very well take you up on it one of these days, as putting out an updated list of the surviving cars has crossed my mind on more than one occasion.
I'm retired now so gone are the dizzy days when I used to trip over the Pond twice a year - these days my good lady frowns upon more than an annual, 10 day trip to Denver see my buddies and do research on my hero, General William J. Palmer.
It was interesting that my old friend Doug Jolly contributed to the list yesterday. He was the guy who tipped me off about the Nick Gray collection in Montrose back in late 1992 - a few months after I had published Taking Stock. Doug wrote to me and said "Great Book, but you missed a collection". Where was he when I needed him!
Doug married a gal from Montrose and lived there for while so he knew the area like the back of his hand. A year later I went back to Montrose to find the site. Despite Doug's directions I couldn't locate it at first but I knew I must have been close. So I stopped at a house to make enquiries. A young woman answered the door and I introduced myself, told her I was looking for Mr Gray and described the purpose of my visit.
It was my lucky day to discover that the young lady happened to be his granddaughter, knew he was out of town for while, and offered to take me to his location and show me around. I think I whispered to my myself "Thank you, God".
A real piece of serendipity!
Vic
