Actually, if I remember, Karl Scaeffer, who built the replica, added the box to have some place for riders to sit. When Bachmann copied his model of the model, the box went along for the ride.

Unfortunately I know of no record of Bachmann making any donations to the Rideway Museum for use of the real model...Might have made some by now, hopefully.
