I was expecting to see some comments regarding the photo of the Santa Fe 1185. Anything that ugly had to be interesting even if it wasn't narrow gauge.
I heard they could pull a massive train but not at a speed that would keep the Santa Fe competitive. It also had a reheater, which heated the steam after it passed through one set of cylinders but before it went into the other. I don't know that any other locomotive having a reheater although it was common in ships.
