Re: Narrow Gauge In North Little Rock, Arkansas

I looked back through the Porter builders list into the early teens and the Davenport list to 1910 and only found one entry for Koppers Co. in Little Rock. Davenport built a 24" gauge, 20 ton 0-4-0 diesel-torque converter locomotive in 2-1951. The builder's number was #3296 and she was powered with a GM6080TC engine. I believe that would be a 6 cylinder, 80 cu. in. per cylinder, turbo charged diesel, but I am not familiar with an eighty series engine. GM did have a 110 series two cycle engine and may have had others. Detroit diesel had the 53, 71, and 92 series two cycle diesels.

A plant the size of the one in Little Rock probably would have kept 2 narrow gauge locomotives in operation during both the steam and diesel periods. Combing through builders lists may come up with others and there is the possibility that a 24" locomotive was transfered from another plant.
