Apparently the war had little effect on Otto's photography. In Colorado Rail Annual 11, there was an article on Otto by Dick Kindig in which Dick relates being in some small Kansas town just after the war. He was talking with a local and mentioned that it was almost impossible to take pictures during the war, and the local mentioned that they had a Nazi spy there during the war taking pictures. The local went on to say that the "spy" claimed to be a postman from Denver, but "he was a spy, allright!" Of course it was Otto... Kindig went on to say that "...of such stuff legends are made."
