3 additional scans of the 1886 WABCO catalog showing the early freight brake valve that preceded the K type that is similar to the passenger "plain" triple used in passenger service. Both of these valves have the 4-position cocks for straight air and automatic air use.
Now actually, there are only 3 useable positions and I guess the 4th position is the same as one of the others - cut out - where there is no communication between the brake pipe and the triple valve/cylinder.
The later plain and triple valves do show up "en-masse" in the 1900 cat.
