Re: Any updates from the FEBT crew?

The FEBT is at work converting one of the EBT steel boxcars for passenger use (a project FEBT hopes to complete this summer) and rebuilding one of the two 1880s combination cars, No. 14 (purchased second-hand in 1916, and in need more work than originally expected). The two-bay hopper that FEBT has been restoring for ballast service, No. 802, is finished and ready to use.

Other crews are continuing to repair and reglaze windows in the shops complex -- more than 1,400 panes have been replaced so far -- and to paint the building exteriors. Lots of progress has been made on projects to replace failed wooden beams in the foundry and to rebuild a small garage between the sand house and the storage sheds behind the farmhouse. A project to replace failed beams in the boiler house is in the planning stages. Opening day is June 7.

(This car arrived with the railroad's first order of 10 hoppers from the Pressed Steel Car Co. in 1913, but the two-bay design was soon supplanted by a three-bay design that gave cars a lower center of gravity, so that they swayed less. The railroad rebuilt several of the two-bay hoppers as side-dump cars for MOW service.)
