William:
I have read all the Gunnison newspapers from 1881 to 1955 and they only mentioned a few of these specials. The newspapers were erratic in their coverage of the railroad. These small town newspapers depended a lot on springers who would call in or send in news stories. Some of the stringers were housewives who were mostly writing about local church and club activities and who had died or had a baby, etc. Sometimes they would not even know what was going on with the railroad. The lady who was their stringer in Crested BUtte owned a liquor store and got lots of her news from railroaders who were her customers.
