Re: Silverton Buried -- snowslides on the D&S

I was on the Cascade run Sunday (2/24). The train made Cascade just fine. It was to leave, as usual, at 1 pm. The conductor told riders to check their watches carefully because while the engineer was going to blow the whistle 4 times at 12:50, as usual, he would do so very softly because of the danger of triggering an avalanche. Hence, he said don't get too far from the train.
There have been many slides this year. One of these closed the line between Tacoma and Cascade for over a week.
