A machinist/shop teacher friend of mine from Ore. was visiting the C&TS the day this happened. He phoned that night or maybe the next day to tell me about it. He arrived in Chama for the first time that evening as the crew was replacing the burned grate bars. He said the spare grate bars needed some final machining, so he volunteered to set up a machine and do the small amount of work required which I think was just boring some holes on a horizontal mill.
