Train Service to Durango, Santa Fe Resumed Thursday
Train service on the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad between Alamosa and Durango and between Alamosa and Santa Fe was resumed Thursday, after a two-day snow blockade. The rotary left Alamosa to open up the right-of-way between Antonito and Chama, N.M., at 3 o’clock this morning while an engine equipped with a snow plow left at 4 o’clock Thursday for the Santa Fe branch to open the blockaded line between Antonito and Tres Piedras. The Santa Fe branch was reported open at 11:30 am.
The passenger trains for the two points left Alamosa at 8 o’clock, following the rotary and plow. Reports from the rotary crew which left Osier shortly after noon indicated that they have found a number of drifts varying in depth from 10 to 13 feet. The snow is not frozen but is packed hard and it proves to be a big job to dig through. It is expected, however by Chief Dispatcher W.S. Graham, of Alamosa, that the trains will go through without much difficulty and that passenger train number 116 will probably arrive in Alamosa about one and one half hours late at 8:40 p.m..
