I was on board this train and it was indeed a great trip. I met up with a couple of fellows, Karl Zimmerman and Roger Cook, who were also on this trip, and they have remained friends all these years. We partied a bit too much in the Strater's Diamond Belle Saloon on the evening back from Silverton, got up late, and barely caught the train for the Alamosa leg. I remained in the area for another week and caught several narrow gauge trains. What a wonderful experience at almost the end of it all. The $23 fare was about a day's wages then for me, so not inconsiderable.
