Thanks for the info Jim. When Hines first got to Bear Valley they set up Camp 1 west of Seneca and cut ties for the spurs into the woods. These spurs went east, west and north. I assume the ties were used to construct the line to Summit Prairie reload area. I often wondered what wood they used. There is of course fir at the higher elevations, but Hines was considered a premier pine supplier. Sounds to me like they may have used pine ties.
BTW, some of the Camp 1 cars wound up in Seneca less trucks as homes. I discovered this while looking under one of a friends home for a baseball that had rolled under the house. I believe the car sitting at the south end of the Hines log pond (if indeed it is still there) is a former camp car.
