Russ:
I haven't responded to your emails because I do not appreciate the name calling. Honest disagreements and different opinions (even strong ones) are certianlly OK. But seems like some cannot have a dialog with out using terms like foamer or extremist.
I have attempted to provide some documentation and evidence of D&RGW practice regarding the green boiler. An almost identical fiasco happened a while back about the use of the Tri-color Royal Gorge/Moffat hearld. As anyone who has done any work with historical societies or any historical agency will tell you, opinons do not count as historical evidence. Photographs, documentation, and in some cases, eye witness accounts are valid sources of proof.
What I have attempted to do is to provide what evidence I can of what D&RGW practice was. What people do with that information is beyond my control. I have an opinon about what should be done. The fact that I a Colorado tax payer gives me the right to have an opinon and state it. You can disagree with my opinion, but can't you do so without restoring to name calling. Apparently you get some kind of kick out of trying to anger folks. All you will accomplish by doing that is to drive away folks who do not find that amusing and who will not take you seriously. There are some folks who have a ton of D&RGW info who used to post on this list and no longer do so. They were driven away by the name calling and childish dialog.
If you want to read the history of D&RGW 268, you can order a copy of the Prospector magazine at this URL...The 268 was painted in the Grande Gold paint scheme for the 1949 Chicago Railroad Fair.
