Blame the weather for this partly off-topic post. Man, I'm ready for summer. Going into this morning, we'd already registered one of the snowiest Decembers on record in my neck of Colorado and, once again today, we're in the process of getting buried. I WANT SUMMER BACK!
So, you get two completely gratuitous images of summer from me, as I sit here at my computer, snowbound and avoiding real work. The first is now over 30 years old. It's 1977, and I'd camped atop Cumbres Pass with a friend, and so was there to record the first glint off the rails as the sun rose to the east on a perfect summer morning. Ahead, a day of chasing trains through some of the best country in the world.
And now, please excuse the non-NG, non-RR content of the second image, but I've got warm summer mornings on the brain. Consider this my contribution to Colorado tourism, as this is from the "other" Colorado - an area that generally doesn't come to mind when most people think of my state. This, from 30 years later, this past August, on another perfect summer morning, this time from the edge of the Uncompahgre Plateau. Redrock country. No, there's no "digital enhancement" of colors here. This is how it was, and is.
As always, click on the thumbnails for larger versions, and... think warm thoughts for me. Please?
